Josh Frizzell
Josh Frizzell can find the drama in anything — and just as easily, the joke. His films run on tension and on characters who feel like people you actually know: the neighbour, the in-law, the mate who always takes it too far. That familiarity is what lets him wander so freely into the absurd and the mysterious without ever losing the audience.
Born into a family of artists, Josh came up through the art department before directing, and that eye for how a world is built has never left him. A string of award-winning music videos led to commercials — and a Cannes Lion — and a career that now moves fluidly between the two. He's equally at home on some of New Zealand's biggest television, directing the award-winning Friends Like Her, Noob and A Remarkable Place To Die.
From humble in-camera tricks to full-scale visual effects, from the heights of hilarity to the depths of drama, Josh does it all with relentless craft and an ease that only comes from having genuinely mastered it. Recent work spans Toyota, Tinder, Coca-Cola, Hyundai and FMG.
